Tom and Sandy Trinter served as chairman and secretary, respectively, of the God and Country Concert committee for the planning of the 2009 through 2012 concerts. Tom also served as chairman for the 2006 through 2008 concerts. Their interest dates back to the second God and Country Concert, which was held in 1988 at their church, King Avenue United Methodist. Tom joined the committee in 1994.
Tom was a member of the Ohio State University Marching Band from 1964 through 1967 and again in 1970 after he served on active duty with the U.S. Army for two years in Oklahoma and Vietnam. He has been an active member of the TBDBITL Alumni Club since the early days of its formation in the early 1970s for past members of the marching band. He has marched at every reunion, played with the alumni “Active Band” year-round since its inception in 1973, and performed with the “Hyperactive Band” at smaller events. He has served in several leadership positions and assisted with planning of annual reunions, international travel, and fund-raising for the Ohio State University Marching Band. Most of the alumni band activities help fund scholarships or the purchase of new instruments. He has been recognized by the OSUMB and TBDBITL Alumni Club with the Most Inspirational Bandsman award (1967), Most Inspirational Alumni Band Member award (1978), and the Script Ohio award (2002). Tom and Sandy have continued to support the Ohio State University Marching Band and get to know current members by serving as Adopt-a-Row sponsors since the program began six years ago.
Tom has played in the Scioto Valley Brass and Percussion Company since its early days in 1993. He has also served on the Salvation Army’s West Mound Corps Advisory Council since 2008.
Tom and Sandy have served their local church in many positions, Sandy as a lifelong member and Tom since their marriage in 1971. Sandy’s experience as a teacher led to her joining the church staff for eleven years in the 1970s and 1980s. She subsequently served a total of 31 years in public education as a teacher and elementary administrator in the Columbus Public Schools.
